Why store, not stash
A closet is where
a rug goes to die.
A rolled rug in a garage goes from 95°F in August to 38°F in January, all while absorbing humidity, mouse urine and the smell of old paint. Cotton warps become brittle; wool pile starts shedding; moths lay eggs deep in the pile where you cannot see them until the damage is done.
A proper vault holds a constant 65°F and 45% humidity year round, wrapped in acid-free paper rather than plastic — plastic traps moisture and is the single fastest way to ruin a rug in storage. Rugs are rolled pile-in on a cardboard core so the pile is never crushed against itself.
Every rug is tagged with your name, inspected every 30 days, and returned to you in the same condition it arrived.

Free pickup & intake
We pick up the rug, photograph and tag it, and log a detailed condition report on arrival so there is no question what it looked like going in.

Clean first (recommended)
Storing a soiled rug invites moths. Most clients pair storage with our 12-step hand wash — we offer 10% off cleaning when bundled.

Rolled pile-in on a core, wrapped in acid-free paper, tagged, and shelved in the climate vault at 65°F and 45% humidity.

What clients ask before they store.
How long can I store a rug with you?
Three-month minimum, no maximum. We have rugs in our vault that have been with us ten years while families worked through probate. Billing is monthly; you can retrieve at any time.
Is the rug insured while in your care?
Yes. Our bailee policy covers the appraised value of each rug in our vault. For very high-value rugs we recommend scheduling a rider on your own policy as well — we can provide the paperwork.
Can I retrieve the rug quickly?
48 hours for delivery to your Bay Area address. Same-day pickup from our Newark shop if you want to come in person.
Do I need to have the rug cleaned first?
Strongly recommended but not required. A clean rug stores better because soil is what feeds moth larvae. We offer 10% off cleaning when bundled with storage over 6 months.
What if moths are already in the rug?
We isolate and treat with ozone before the rug enters the main vault. We will not add a pest-compromised rug to our shared storage without treatment first.
Do you store rugs rolled or flat?
Rolled, pile-in, on a rigid cardboard core. Flat storage is only for very large rugs that cannot be rolled without creasing — we have shelving for those as well.
