Why a pad matters
The pad is why
the rug lasts.
A rug placed directly on a hard floor wears from two directions at once: friction from above as feet compress the pile, and abrasion from below as knots rub the hardwood. A proper pad adds a half-inch of cushion that cuts both forces. The rug lasts twice as long. The floor underneath takes no marks.
A cheap off-the-shelf pad — especially a solid-rubber or plastic-grid one — is worse than no pad. The adhesive chemicals transfer to the rug foundation and to the floor. Hardwood gets a permanent dull patch; the rug absorbs the chemistry for years.
A felt-and-rubber or memory-foam pad cut to the rug’s exact dimensions uses no harsh adhesives, does not creep or bunch, and adds just the right amount of softness. Cut to size means the pad sits 1 inch inside the rug’s edge on every side so no one sees it and no one trips.

Both pad types are pH-neutral and contain no plasticizers or phthalates. Safe on hardwood, engineered wood, tile, LVP and stone.

Measure the rug
Bring the rug or send photos with tape-measure dimensions. We need length and width in inches; we handle the rest.

Choose the fibre
Felt-and-rubber for most households; memory foam for bedrooms, guest rooms, and rugs over thin area rugs or softer underlay preference.

What you should know before you order.
How is a custom pad different from what’s at the big-box store?
Three ways: the materials are premium (no plastic grid, no petroleum adhesive), the thickness is right (3/8 inch, not 1/8), and it is cut to size — so it sits exactly under the rug with no lip visible.
Will the pad work on radiant-heated floors?
Yes. Both felt-and-rubber and memory-foam types are rated for radiant-floor use up to 90°F. They do not trap heat or create hot spots.
Do I need a pad if the rug has a non-slip backing?
Probably yes. Rubber-backed rugs creep and bubble anyway, and the rubber degrades in 2 to 3 years leaving chalky residue on the floor. A separate pad is cleaner and lasts longer.
What about a rug over carpet?
For that we have a felt-only pad — no rubber backing, so the rug can breathe against the carpet and does not bunch.
Does the pad damage hardwood?
No. We use only phthalate-free and plasticizer-free formulations. Both the felt and the natural-rubber types are hardwood-safe. We have pads 20+ years in place with no floor residue.
What’s the warranty?
10 years on both pad types against crumbling, adhesive transfer, or loss of grip. If the pad fails, we cut a replacement at no charge.
